Clinical supervision is an essential part of professional practice for counsellors and therapists at every stage of their career. At Wokingham Therapy Clinic, we offer individual supervision with an experienced supervisor in a warm, reflective, and professionally grounded space.

1. What is clinical supervision?

Clinical supervision is a structured, confidential process in which a counsellor or therapist meets regularly with an experienced supervisor to reflect on their client work. It is not line management or performance monitoring — it is a dedicated space for professional reflection, development, and support.

Supervision allows you to explore the work you are doing with clients, examine your own responses and processes, and ensure your practice remains safe, ethical, and effective. It is a cornerstone of responsible therapeutic practice and is required by all major professional bodies including the BACP and UKCP.

2. Why is supervision important?

Working closely with clients who are experiencing emotional pain, trauma, or crisis can take a significant toll. Without regular supervision, it is easy to lose perspective, carry work home, or develop blind spots in your practice. Supervision provides a protected space to:

  • Process the emotional impact of client work
  • Develop your skills and therapeutic thinking
  • Maintain clear professional and ethical boundaries
  • Recognise and work with transference and countertransference
  • Gain an outside perspective on complex or stuck cases
  • Protect against burnout and compassion fatigue
  • Meet your professional body's requirements for ongoing supervision hours

3. Who is supervision for?

Supervision at Wokingham Therapy Clinic is open to:

  • Qualified counsellors and therapists in private practice or agency settings who require regular supervision as part of their professional registration
  • Counselling students and trainees who need placement supervision as part of their training programme
  • Newly qualified practitioners building confidence and consolidating their skills in the early stages of practice

Whether you are at the beginning of your counselling journey or are an experienced practitioner, supervision offers ongoing value and professional nourishment at every stage.

4. Our approach to supervision

Supervision at Wokingham Therapy Clinic is grounded in the Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision, developed by Peter Hawkins and Robin Shohet. This model offers a comprehensive framework for exploring the supervisory relationship from multiple perspectives, ensuring that both the client's experience and the practitioner's process are fully considered.

The Seven-Eyed Model examines:

  • The client and their world
  • The interventions made by the supervisee
  • The relationship between client and supervisee
  • The supervisee's own process and internal responses
  • The supervisory relationship itself
  • The supervisor's own process
  • The wider organisational and contextual factors at play

This multi-layered approach encourages deep reflection and helps practitioners develop greater self-awareness, clinical insight, and professional confidence. Supervision is integrative and trauma-informed, drawing on a range of theoretical frameworks to meet you where you are in your practice.

5. What to expect from sessions

Supervision sessions are held on an individual basis and offer a private, confidential, and non-judgemental space. Sessions are typically 60 minutes in length and can be arranged on a frequency that meets your professional requirements — most practitioners attend fortnightly or monthly.

In sessions you can bring:

  • Client presentations you find challenging or complex
  • Ethical dilemmas or boundary questions
  • Feelings of being stuck or unsure how to progress
  • Your own emotional responses to client work
  • Reflections on your theoretical approach and development
  • Questions about your professional practice and identity

Sessions are available both in person at the clinic in Wokingham and online, offering flexibility to suit your schedule and location.

Anna Brooks

Anna BrooksI am an integrative, systemic, and trauma-informed counsellor with experience working with individuals, couples, and families. Alongside my clinical practice, I offer supervision to qualified counsellors and counselling students, providing a supportive and reflective space in which to develop your practice.

My approach to supervision is grounded in the Seven-Eyed Model, which I find offers a rich and flexible framework for exploring all dimensions of the therapeutic relationship. I aim to create a space where supervisees feel genuinely safe to bring the full complexity of their work — including the parts that feel uncertain, uncomfortable, or unresolved.

I work with supervisees at all stages of their career, from trainees completing placements through to experienced practitioners seeking ongoing professional development. Whatever your experience level, supervision with me is a collaborative process built on trust, honesty, and a shared commitment to good practice.

I also offer therapy for counselling students, supporting you through the personal development demands of training alongside your academic and placement work.
